Billy Joel is sharp as ever amid his battle with a brain disorder, according to his daughter.
Alexa Ray Joel, the 39-year-old daughter of the "Piano Man" singer and his ex-wife Christie Brinkley, spoke with Fox News Digital about how her dad is doing, three months after he disclosed he was diagnosed with a brain disorder known as normal pressure hydrocephalus.
Despite his health challenges, Joel, 76, is not having any cognitive difficulties, his daughter said in the interview published on Sunday, Aug. 24. "It's funny because people were concerned about cognitive decline," she told Fox News. "I don't see any of that from him. I really, really don't."
According to the Cleveland Clinic, normal pressure hydrocephalus occurs when fluid buildup disrupts brain function, which can affect thinking, concentrating, memory and movement. It is "unusual among dementia-like conditions because it's often reversible," although the "chances of reversing this condition are highest with early diagnosis and fast treatment," the clinic notes.

Joel's daughter went on to describe her father as "sharp as a tack," noting that he has a strong memory and is still able to recall specific details about every one of his albums.
Alexa Ray also revealed the ways her dad has been taking care of his health. In addition to going to physical therapy several times a week, he has made changes to his diet.
"We had dinner the other night," she told Fox News Digital. "I said, 'Dad, what are you doing? You're not getting the steak? You're getting chicken instead?' Like, this is a whole new you here. ... I'm really proud of him and how he sort of adjusted his habits, and he's really at probably his most healthy actually right now in terms of how well he's taking care of himself and prioritizing his health."

Joel first shared news of his brain disorder diagnosis in a statement in May. At the time, he canceled his upcoming concerts as his team said that his condition was "exacerbated by recent concert performances, leading to problems with hearing, vision, and balance."
"Under his doctor's instructions, Billy is undergoing specific physical therapy and has been advised to refrain from performing during this recovery period," the statement said.

Not long after Joel announced his diagnosis, radio host Howard Stern told listeners that he had dinner with the singer, who seemed to be doing fine. "He does have issues, but he said, 'Yeah, you can tell people I'm not dying,'" Stern said. "He wants people to know that. He's just go to deal with some medical stuff."

In July, Joel stopped by Bill Maher's "Club Random" podcast and provided a health update. He said that he was feeling "fine" but having difficulty with his balance. "My balance sucks," he said. "It's like being on a boat." But Joel continued, "I feel good. They keep referring to what I have as a brain disorder, so it sounds a lot worse than what I'm feeling."
In an Instagram post in May, Alexa Ray Joel, who is also a singer, praised her father as the "strongest and most resilient man I've ever known." She added that he is "entirely committed to making a full recovery with ongoing physical-therapy treatments as he continues to regain his strength."
