A bride's family member recently criticized her August wedding, which was a Christmas-themed celebration
The family member, who is the bride's cousin, remarked that the décor looked like a "Hallmark movie exploded"
The woman is now being admonished by family for making the bride feel self-conscious on her special day
A wedding guest is regretting the remarks she made about her cousin's wedding décor.
In a post on Reddit's AITA forum, the woman, who is the bride's cousin, asked if her comments about the wedding's "over-the-top" Christmas décor went too far.
The wedding recently took place in August, but the bride always loved Christmas, so she and her partner decided to center their wedding theme around the holiday. The celebration included a fake snow machine, red and green decorations, a hot chocolate bar and bridesmaid dresses with velvet and white fur trim.
"It felt more like a winter-themed office party than a wedding," the guest wrote.

As the evening went on, "I didn't say anything to her about it. I smiled, took photos, and played along. Later during the reception, while I was at the bar with my boyfriend, I said something like, 'This is kind of over-the-top. It's cute, but it feels like a Hallmark movie exploded in here," she recalled. "I genuinely thought I said it quietly and privately."
One of the bridesmaids heard the exchange and told the bride. Twenty minutes later, the upset bride approached the woman.
"I immediately apologized and told her I didn't mean it that way. I said I thought it was fun, just not what I expected," the guest wrote. "She said, 'It is what I wanted. It's my day, not yours,' and then walked off before I could explain more."
Since the wedding, the bride hasn't replied to her cousin, and now the family is upset about the comment. Her boyfriend maintained she didn't do anything wrong, but her mother and aunt have already admonished her for embarrassing the bride.
"She hasn't answered any of my messages since," the woman wrote. "My aunt called me the next day and said I ruined the mood and embarrassed my cousin on her wedding night. My mom agrees that I should have kept my opinions to myself."
Now the woman is stressed about the damaged relationship, and the hurt she caused.
"I honestly didn't mean to hurt anyone. I didn't say it to be mean and I didn't expect it to get back to her. But maybe I should have just kept my mouth shut entirely."

In the comments, other Reddit users agreed that the guest was wrong to be speaking about the wedding the way she did, especially while still at the event itself.
"Yes, it's an odd theme for an August wedding but that was neither the time nor place to say anything about it," wrote one user.
Others noted that while the guest was clearly wrong for being openly critical of the wedding, the bridesmaid definitely shouldn't have raised the issue with the bride in that moment, as it's her special day with her husband.
Some, however didn't take issue with the comments.
"I don't think what you said was mean," another person wrote. "If someone said that my wedding looked like "a Pinterest board exploded in here" I would take it as the compliment it is lol."
