A wildfire burning in the Florida Everglades about 40 miles northwest of Miami has sent plumes of smoke into nearby communities, prompting warnings of low visibility ahead of the morning commute and air quality concerns.
The Miles Marker 39 Fire has scorched 1,600 acres of land and was 0% contained as of Aug. 20, according to the Florida Forest Service.
To the west, another smaller fire dubbed the Saw Grass Fire burned 250 acres of land in the Everglades, the forest service said. It remains unclear what caused the blazes.
Smoke from the larger fire has begun moving into eastern Broward County, which includes the cities of Fort Lauderdale and Hollywood, and Miami-Dade County, officials said.
"Exercise extra caution on the roads as visibilities may vary greatly across short distances," the National Weather Service in Miami warned.

Everglades wildfires spark as southeast Florida under heat advisory
Weather officials also warned vulnerable populations, such as those suffering from cardiovascular or respiratory conditions, to consider reducing their time outdoors as the blazes impact air quality.
The blazes come as southeast Florida was under high heat advisories. The National Weather Service issued a high heat advisory from Homestead to West Palm Beach, warning of heat index levels up to 110 degrees.
The Florida Everglades is a subtropical wetland ecosystem spanning across more than 1.5 million acres of mangroves, marshes and sawgrass.
Heat advisories and red flag warnings were also active across the western U.S., including much of California, Arizona, Nevada and Montana.
