President Donald Trump's immigration crackdown in Chicago has impacted people across the city and the surrounding suburbs.
Recently, federal agents tear-gassed a residential street on the North Side on Oct. 24, after detaining people in the predominantly White neighborhoods of Lake View and Lincoln Park, according to Block Club Chicago.
The Department of Homeland Security says it has arrested more than 1,500 people as of the beginning of October, though USA TODAY has not been able to independently verify their count.
Some immigration advocates call the arrests "abductions." Federal agents and agencies face lawsuits, including from a Chicago City Council member following her brief detainment at a hospital, and an ongoing case over accusations that agents have violated limits on how ICE can make arrests without warrants and during traffic stops.

If immigration officers approach or engage in public
Chicago's Office of Immigration, Migrant and Refugee Rights released a guide titled "Know Your Rights & Resources: Upholding Justice and Rights for Every Chicagoan."
A section by the Illinois Coalition for Immigrant & Refugee Rights offers the following about rights when engaging with immigration agents in any location:
You have the right to remain silent.
You do not have to disclose your immigration status.
You do not have to sign anything you don't understand.
You can ask to speak with an attorney.
It also advises that people should remain calm and keep hands in sight.
If immigration officers come to your home
ICE agents do not have the legal right to enter your home without a warrant signed by a judge, according to ICIRR, which also explains that some ICE warrants are signed by other officers within the agency and do not give the same legal authority as those signed by a judge.
The National Immigrant Justice Center has sample images to spot the difference between the two kinds of warrants on its website.
